I have been doing these little rolled roses for years and recently felt like making a piece for my bedroom. Taking advantage of this I thought I would show you a simple how to step by step guide for making these roses.

I like making them out of a book that I love, or means something to me or the room they are going in. So of course for me it was Alice in Wonderland.
You can glue or pin these roses on to anything from wreaths, photo frames, signs, mirrors...wherever you want to add a touch of literacy inspired vintage decorations.
So here is the step by step guide to making your own:
Materials:
Book of your choice
Hot glue gun and hot glue gun sticks
Scissors
A lolly stick or similar
Polystyrene shape/s (or surface you want to add the roses to)
Pins if required
Ribbon (optional)
A pot if required
Mod podge (optional)

Step 1.
Begin by ripping out your books pages, then draw a circle shape whatever size you want and begin to cut out.
Step 2.
Cut your circles in to spirals, you can use a template to draw out your circles and spirals for the next step but I quite like the fact that they are not all uniform and using your lolly stick (or similar) begin to roll the rose around it from the end. Continue through to the end to form your rolled rose.
Step 3.
Using your hot glue gun dab some glue under the spiral (you should have a little circle to put the glue on) then let unspiral until desired shape made and hold in place.
Continue to make however many rolled roses you need for your project.
Step 4.
Once you have rolled all of your roses you can begin placing them on your chosen bases. I have chosen to use a polystyrene ball shape in a pot like a topiary. I then decided to use pins with diamonds on the end to secure them in place but you can just use hot glue to fix them to the ball or surface you choose.

Step 5 (optional)
I decided to use one of the images from the book i used to cut out and mod podge onto the pot - thought I would just draw attention to it in case you wanted to do your own.

Step 6.
Once you have put all of your roses in place you can add decorative pieces as you wish.
I used some crystals in the bottom of a pot to hide the polystyrene shape I cut out to hold the lolly stick in place to keep the ball supported. I also decided to add a bow which I pinned in place.
